The brain reveals the secret to long-lasting love
Scientists say can determine whether the relationship has a future, by studying brain activity partners, writes Telegraph.
They intercepted characteristic patterns of electrical activity in the brains of participants who are in love recently discovered that through brain scans can identify and more - whether the couple will stay together.
"All participants in the study felt strongly in love with their partners and this has been reflected by scanners, but there were some subtle indicators that show how stable these feelings, says Professor. Artan Aron of Stony Brook University in New York.
"If this strong sense is combined with signals that they can regulate their emotions, to look positively to the close working relationship and to deal with conflict situations, it seems really helps to stay with this man," he said.
The scientists published their study in the journal. Neuroscience Letters, studied 12 volunteers who say they are deeply in love and have a relationship for about a year. While scanning their brain using a magnetic resonance imaging, they showed them a picture of the partner and ask them to remember different things about it.
The procedure is repeated with a picture of acquaintance to when they have romantic feelings.
After three years, researchers compared the results of the brain scan with the development of relations. Half connections are completed, the other half continued.
Among participants who remained with their partners, the researchers observed increased activity in the area of the brain responsible for emotional reactions to external beauty and less activity in areas related to the search of reward and addiction. It speaks of peace and satisfaction in the relationship.
Another area of the brain but also showed less activity - t. Pomegranate.
Orbitofrontalen intermediate cortex - researchers say it makes people less likely to evaluate and criticize their partners.
The authors believe that their study may help couples who have problems in their relationships.
