A Christmas Eve Hunt

in #bowhunting7 years ago

So as I sit here this Christmas Eve I think of the times as a teenager I would go out and do some rabbit hunting. Even though I was not always successful I counted it all joy to be out on Snowshoes and hiking the fields of my Grandmothers Farm. I would stay out until the sun would set and once the sun set I would unload my shotgun and start heading home. As I went home on the cold winter night of Christmas Eve I would look up at the star lit sky and think of the Shepherds who were grading their sheep and they were more intent on keep watch over their charge than anything else. Then I thought of their amazement when the heavenly hosts broken into worship. Then my mind turned to the journey that the wise men took to see the little child Jesus and the gifts that they brought to lay at His feet. So as one can see that hunting brings about far more than just putting meat on the table it truly uplifts the soul.

So after all these years I can still remember snowshoeing the fields of the farm and the smell of the fresh snow that had dropped that day. I can remember thinking about the love that was poured out from heaven on that Christmas Day that would ultimately lead to our redemption on that Old Rugged Cross.

Even though I was not able to hunt this Christmas Eve as it is not legal to do so in the state that I live in currently but I cannot wait to pass on this tradition to my Son and Daughter next year when we can actually hunt on Christmas Eve.
