Will Robots Be A Part of Home Life? What do you think.... Scary Tech vs Functional Automation??
Are we ready for robots at home?
Robots are not new, they have been around for years, but they are usually far enough away not to cause panic or notice. Such as a robot arm that works on manufacturing cars, or a robot that helps someone walk. But, what if you woke up tomorrow morning staring into the "eyes" of a robot watching you sleep peacefully... would you feel at ease knowing the robot is watching out for your best interests or worried?
Robots have been a controversial topic for years now, and I still think the majority of families would not want a robot at home at this time. In the near future that may change....
I came across an article of an interesting new robot the Misty II which seems to have a lot of amazing capabilities to include room/home mapping, recognizing and greeting guests or homeowners, scanning shelves for supplies that are getting low, bringing drinks or other objects, telling jokes, testing the air quality, monitoring windows and doors at night for intruders, and so on...
I believe that robots can bring technology, science, safety, security, and eventually AI into our homes, but at what cost? With the 4K facial and laser scanner, how vulnerable is your life it its been mapped and move from the physical into the digital world. It's hard to hack and take something when it exists in a physical state only.
I think with the future of blockchain technology, securing our data, and getting away from cloud and single point architecture, lowering fear of data breaches, then we will see an explosion of robots entering the family home.
So what do you think? Are you ready to share your life with a robot at home?
