UNESCO World Heritage Site
The city was once called a "sleeping beauty" or a dark city but the moment the facades of the buildings were thoroughly cleaned, Bordeaux regained its life. The changes started to appear after the urban project of a mayor at the time, Mr. Alain Juppé. The trams with the underground cables, riverside walkways, and bicycle roads made it so much more enjoyable for both tourists and locals. Place de la Bourse on the picture below is a Unesco World Heritage Site since 2007.
