Rare Book of the Day – Oh, God!, Avery Corman. First Edition. Basis for the 1977 Film Starring George Burns and John Denver.

This is a fun one. Avery Corman, born in 1935, is an American novelist best known for 'Oh, God!' and 'Kramer vs Kramer', both of which were adapted into highly successful motion pictures. As an interesting biographical note, Corman once gifted a restored basketball court to his childhood schoolyard. This became the catalyst that started the City Parks Foundation, which has since become a multi-million dollar foundation of which Corman still sits on the board of directors.

His first novel 'Oh, God' was adapted into the classic 1977 film starring George Burns and John Denver, and directed by Carl Reiner. It tells the story of a modest grocery store manager who becomes chosen by god to spread his message, often to comedic effect. The film garnered critical acclaim and was regarded as one of the best films of the year. This is the first printing of the 1971 novel:
