Rare Book of the Day - Diary of a Drug Fiend, Aleister Crowley. First Edition Thus.
Aleister Crowley was a fascinating character. Born in 1875, he was a prolific writer and poet, a world traveler, mountaineer, chess master, artist, yogi, social provocateur, drug addict and sexual libertine. He was a member of several occult groups, and founded the religion of Thelema, considering himself the prophet entrusted with guiding humanity into the Æon of Horus in the 20th century. He was so maligned by the press that he was known as the "wickedest man in the world." Oh, and he may or may not have been a British spy.
Diary of a Drug Fiend is his first published novel. Crowley studied the effects of many drugs, often experimenting on himself, and the novel is based on his experiences. It also lays out the core philosophy of Thelema and his conception of 'True Will.' This is an uncommon hardcover edition, published in 1970 by University Books:
