Welcome to The Golden D Homestead Thursday Afternoon Book Review!

Today I am focusing on herbs and foraging
First up in the weekly book review is Healing Herbs: A Beginner's Guide To Identifying, Foraging and Using Medicinal Plants by Tina Sams

I picked an herb that I am interested in learning more about to share with you here.

Calendula

And every herb, tree or plant listed in the books also gives some recipes to try. Which I found a great addition. Because, as I am just learning about herbs and their medicinal uses, I was thrilled to see recommended recipes to start with.

This book is a GREAT resource. I found myself reading every word and excited to have made such a discovery. The book I have in the pictures here is on loan from the library, but I am definitely planning on buying my own copy in the next week or two.

My second review is for Midwest Foraging: 115 wild and flavorful edibles from burdock to wild peach by Lisa M. Rose

Now this book has a lot of repeat herb info, but being a Midwestern Gal, I just had to get the book to see what herbs and plants are indigenous to my area. Once again, I was pleased with my choice of books. This one is also not mine yet, but I already know that when I do get my own it will have many worn out, ear-marked pages.

Here is an example:
Mallow

Mallow is another herb/plant I was planning on adding to my herb garden for next year. I already have the sketched plans on the raised container bed; which will measure 4'x4'. I figured 16-square feet will give me a nice start on the expansion.
