New Books Tuesday

in #books6 years ago

Many people know that Wednesday is New Comics day. Somewhat less known is the fact that Tuesday, in the US, is New Books day.

Weekly disclaimer: This weekly post highlights some of the books being published on any given week, usually in the science fiction and fantasy genres, both YA and books for adults. I am VERY likely to miss cool new books, so please feel free to tell me about them in the comments. Sometimes these will be books I've read a pre-publishing copy of, but most of the time, they will not. These are books I find notable, but I certainly don't read fast enough in English to be able to read all the cool books that come out every week.

This is a big book week for me. I'm publishing Nova's fifth novel, and our annual convention, ICon, has begun by the time you read this. As usual, I'm in charge of the guest of honor, so expect me to be scarce for the next few days. But I've committed to publishing this one post every week, so here we are.

Vengeful (Villains #2) by V.E. Schwab

There was never any doubt about which book will open this week's post. I've been waiting for this one for years, and I'm so glad V became the kind of literary superstar who gets to continue series that were once abandoned due to low sales.

A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney

Elle and I have been pals on twitter for quite some time, and I have been anxiously waiting her debut novel. Black warrior Alice in a messed up Wonderland. Here for this. Sadly, I am out of Audible credits, so it'll have to wait for next week.

For a Muse of Fire by Heidi Heilig

So this is definitely "Didi's twitter pals publish books week," as Heidi is also a pal. I really dug her previous two books, and expect to dig this one as well.

Barren (Demon Cycle) by Peter V. Brett

This novella is set in Brett's massively popular Demon Cycle, which... I have not read. But I'm sure the fans have been waiting for it eagerly.

The Caged Queen (Iskari #2) by Kristen Ciccarelli

This is the second novel in Ciccarelli YA epic fantasy series of magical sisters. Looks fun.

A Winter’s Promise (Mirror Visitor Quartet #1) by Christelle Dabos

This fantasy novel, the first in a series, is translated from French. In the original language, it is an award winning novel.

Phoenix Unbound by Grace Draven

This romantic epic fantasy is the start of a series. We've got an evil empire, and a man and a woman bound to common cause by a bit of blackmail. They will bone.

Black Wings Beating by Alex London

This is a fantasy novel about actual birds of prey, and the falconers who take care of them and use them in battle. It also seems to be queer, which is awesome.

Give the Dark My Love by Beth Revis

This is an interesting twist on the old "magic highschool" trope, as the school is a school of alchemy, and our heroine may turn to darkness to stop a plague.

The Sisters of the Winter Wood by Rena Rossner

We've had books released by authors I know online this week, but I actually know Rena. She's a local agent, when she's not writing. We're pals. And this book, much like Naomi Novik's excellent Spinning Silver, is a fantasy novel about being Jewish in Europe. So, you know, pretty close to home!

The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein by Kiersten White

The Conqueror's Saga, White's previous series, was a huge hit. It told a gender flipped version of the story of Vlad Dracula, with a protagonist called Lada. Now, she takes on a secondary character in another 19th century classic, and focuses the tale on Elizabeth Frankenstein.

The Tomb by S. A. Bodeen

This one looks to be an interesting cross between The Matrix and a generation starship. That combination is appealing and interesting to me!

Rabbit & Robot by Andrew Smith

Unstable androids, a space cruiseship above an earth that's falling apart, and a protagonist trying to survive addiction. And I think it's a comedy.

Zion’s Fiction: A Treasury of Israeli Speculative Literature edited by Sheldon Teitelbaum & Emanuel Lottem

If Rena Rossner's book hit close to home, this book basically is home. It's an anthology of Israeli science fiction and fantasy. I know most of the authors, some of whom are dear friends of mine. I translated one of the stories. I am in no way objective about this one.

What are you looking forward to reading?

Some of these look really interesting.
If The Sisters of the Winter Wood is only partly as good as the cover is beautiful, I want it.
