My O.W.L.s Magical Readathon TBR | Spell Maker | April 2020

It's that time of the year again, where we all sit for our Ordinary Wizarding Levels (or more commonly known as OWLs) at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft And Wizardry and it is time to buckle down and decide which career we want to pursue in life.

The Magical Readathon is a worldwide readathon based on the world of Harry Potter, created by the very talented G from Book Roast, and this is the third year that this is happening. I only participated last year (see my TBR from 2019 here) but I first became aware of it during the first year.

Have a look at G's OWLs announcement video in order to see the criteria and all the rules.

I have decided this year that I wanted to do the Spell Maker, as opposed to Auror from last year (I think they have about the same number of subjects, anyway) because it's a little like creating new recipes, isn't it?

As you can see, Spell maker requires me to take 7 exams, each exam being a subject and each subject being a prompt:

Ancient Runes: Heart Rune - read a book with a heart on the cover or in the title
Arithmancy: The Power Of 2 (balance/opposites) - read a book outside your fave genre
Astronomy: Night Classes - read this book mostly during dark hours
Charms: Lumos Maxima - read a book with a white cover
Divination: Third Eye - assign a number to each book in your TBR and pick one using a random number generator
History of Magic: The Witch Trials - read a book featuring witches/wizards
Transfiguration: Animagus Lecture - read a book that includes shapeshifting

In addition to the main examination curriculum, there are also numerous extracurricular seminars/training/workshops that we can also "attend" if we wanted more of a challenge.

I'm definitely interested in doing the Animagus Training because I'd love to transform into a bird at will, as well as the Merpeople Linguistics Seminar because it's only one additional subject - this means that I'd have to add an extra two subjects to my exams:

Herbology: Mimbulous Mimbletonia - read a book with a title starting with the letter M
Potions: Shrinking Solution - read a book under 150 pages

And then, if I've finished all the rest and there is still some time, I'd also like to do the Locomotive Operator course, because who doesn't want to drive the Hogwarts Express? This will add another two subjects to my total:

Defense Against The Dark Arts: Grindylows - read a book set at the sea/coast
Muggle Studies: Book from the perspective of a Muggle (Contemporary)

This brings my total TBR for April to ELEVEN books!!!

Bonus! I will automatically qualify for a Magical Shop Management certificate since I already have the required OWLs covered.

Who knows? I may even be able to finish the twelfth OWL, too...

There is a video up on my YouTube channel, my latest, where I explain all this and showcase all the books I've chosen for each prompt. Please subscribe to my channel for more bookish goodness.

Keep smiling
