“These guys should be given capital punishment!” - John Abraham
When John Abraham is angry few would dare to cross his path. He will be seen in Milap Zaveri’s Satyamev Jayate, fighting against corruption in the police force as a crusader for justice, but the star is also a crusader in real life too - for the rights of women and animals. Last week a pregnant goat was allegedly sexually assaulted (on July 25) by eight men in Haryana’s Mewat district after which the animal died. Animal rights organization PETA India took to Twitter saying, “We worked with the police in filing FIR against the accused. They're expected to be arrested soon! Please join us in urging the government for stricter penalties, for those who abuse animals.”
Not just animal lovers, but people all over India are shocked at this act of alleged bestiality and a #JusticeForGoat campaign was launched on Twitter today with the Twitterati venting their anger and has been trending. There was also another case of animal cruelty when a group of drunk men, allegedly killed a cow by inserting a glass bottle into its intestine by restricting its movements at Bhattarahalli in Bengaluru, Karnataka.
While till now, no Bollywood star, who claim to love animals have spoken out against this allegedly horrendous act, a horrified John Abraham, for whom animals mean the world to him, told us, “I am appalled. Being an Indian, I say women and animals are not safe in our country. Capital punishment is the only way forward. Nothing else will work with the sick men in our country. For me my religion is being good to all living beings. These guys should be given capital punishment - simple." John has always maintained that as animals cannot speak for themselves, so it is up to us to give them a voice and speak for them.
John is known not just for his hot body or good looks but his sensitive and caring nature. In 2008, he played an environmental activist in Deepa Mehta’s film Luna, which also starred Dustin Hoffman, Rachel Weisz and Chris Cooper. His last movie Parmanu - The Story Of Pokhran (which he co-produced too), was a big hit at the box-office and received critical appreciation too. John supports various animal welfare programs and is always one of the first stars to champion their cause. He adopted a stray dog called Bailey last year. His mother Firoza Irani, who is an ardent animal lover too, feeds about many stray dogs around her home and outside. John is a strong advocate of the adoption of homeless animals. The big-hearted animal lover had posed for a print ad for PETA alongside the caption No One Wants to Be Caged: Let Birds Fly Free.
