Here is my Dinghy that I built in 2010

7 years and 100s of miles later. It could use some minor repairs and paint, but still going strong.

I purchased the plans to build it from Clark Craft back in 1999. I believe the model is "Dinghy 10".
It is 10ft long, 3ft 6in wide, seaworthy, and easily propelled by oars, sail, or outboard.

Here are some photos of the build.

The method to build is called "stitch and glue"

Materials used:
3 sheets of marine grade plywood (2 sheets 1/4" and 1 sheet 3/8"
~ 1 gallon of epoxy glue
4 yards fiberglass cloth
16 yards 4" fiberglass tape
1/2 gallon primer
1/2 paint
25 ft of used firehose that was given to me
oars and oar locks.
total cost of materials ~$600
build time ~50 hrs

I love this dinghy, and it has carried me to some great places.

This dinghy has even rescued other boats.

now that is an incredible project! the result came out amazing! do you per chance have the plans? or a link where to get plans for this exact build?

I do have the plans, they are a bit to mangled to use though.
The plans included full size transfers, and that is in to poor shape to transfer to the plywood.

The plans were from Clarkcraft.com, but I did not find mine on the site...I purchased the plans in 1999.
They have alot of other plans that are similar.

Oh! i'd love to see those plans... i'm sure you can also buy/find plenty today, but it would be cool to also show the plans form almost 20 years ago...

@beveryting, I opened a Discord chat "Sailor's Knot" that will be designated to sailors on steemit, i'd love for you to join, i see a lot more sailors joining soon and i'd like to brainstorm on how we can grow this community. here is the link,
https://discord.gg/2hVZ4b
Hope to see you there and talk to you soon

I forgot that 1999 wasn't yesterday.
I pulled my plans from the shelf and open them up.
Found the plan # it's plan #17
Check um out:

That is incredible! i'd say that the plans are in a rather good condition.

The plans on the beige paper were drawn by you?

Thank you @knot for the discord link.

What time is happy hour?
Can I get drunk and curse like the sailor I am?

I just did some research on discord, and unfortunately I will not be using it for several reasons.
It's not FOSS (free open source software)
It's not peer to peer (it has centralized servers)
Not encrypted communication
How is the company planning to pay for the service they provide (If I am not paying to use the service, then I am not the customer)

i understand your concern, and totally respect it, the Ale and Rum will still be there if you do decide to join though. :)

Currently Steemit.chat is down, and prior to that very few people used it, so hopefully when they relaunch it, it will be a lot more engaging and interesting to use.

Discord on the other hand, has been instrumental for getting in touch with people on Steemit. I belong to several communities on it and found that it is very necessary in order to grow on the platform. There are thousands of groups on it, big and small, and so far i've seen to issues in privacy, especially since you can continue using your steemit name and no one really knows who you are...

For now i will be mainly focusing on building knot using Discord as a means to privately discuss ideas, etc. But if you have a safer method please let me know and i'll give it a consideration. :)

Thank you. I would love to chat with everyone.

I noticed that discord was popular here with steemit users, and was excited when you invited me.
When I went to join you, I was surprised to find it was not part of the steem blockchain/platform.
I just think the steem blockchain and platform are great.

It's just that I am a little peculiar... if this was free and just world, it would not be an issue.

Alternative to discord would be XMPP
Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol
