Basics
The goal of the game is to score points by colonizing or attacking planets and asteroids. Each player begins the game with the same cards in their deck. Through the course of the game, players will choose actions that will acquire more cards to their hand and manipulate their deck. Players will search for planets and asteroids to colonize or attack. These planets and asteroids may provide resources the player may use later to generate points or use the resources for purchasing planets. The end of the game is triggered when the available point tokens have been depleted or a set number of stacks of cards are empty.
The unique design of this game allows players to follow actions of the active player. An active player chooses their actions. They will then choose a role to play where they acquire one of the cards in the card row. Other players take this opportunity to follow the role which triggers certain events or dissent the role which means that the player draws a card. A player may have triggers on planets and asteroids that will trigger when dissenting or following.
The person with the most points from planets, asteroids, and cards in their decks win at the end of the game.
Thoughts
This game is really fun. With the unique design of the trade row of cards available and the follow mechanic, it provides all players with little downtime between turns.
The artwork is very thematic and well done. The gameplay is smooth and flows nicely. Once a player gets used to the flow of the game it goes by pretty quick.
This is a game that gets better with the expansions available. Oblivion, Exotica, Escalation are the current expansions for the game. Each add gameplay elements that enhance the gameplay greatly. From adding new planet types to scenario-driven starting decks that change your initial decks. Oblivion adds political intrigue to the gameplay.
