BMW Motorrad has widened its portfolio with the launch of two new motorcycles - the R nineT Racer and K 1600 B. While the R nineT Racer is a modern classic priced at ₹ 17.3 lakhs, the K 1600 B is a bagger retailing at ₹ 29 lakhs (both ex-showroom).

The R nineT was developed by BMW as a canvas for custom motorcycle enthusiasts. The R nineT Racer is one such factory-developed custom bike, inspired by the racing motorcycles from the 1950s. The bodywork is similar ro the R nineT, but the half-fairing and aggressive riding position adds a sporty appeal. The paint scheme borrows the comapny's racing colours. At the heart of the R nineT Racer is a 1170cc air-cooled boxer engine, delivering 110bhp and 116Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed transmission.

The K 1600 B on the other hand, is a bagger based on the K 1600 GTL. It gets a low slung and swooping profile with a laid back riding position. The rear section gets hard case panniers while the windshield is electronically adjustable. There are a slew of creature comforts and riding aids aimed at making it good for touring. Powering the K 1600 B is a 1649cc inline six engine, delivering 158bhp and 175Nm of torque.

Both the motorcycles are available with slew of optional extras. The ones on the R nineT Racer are targeted at improving its visual appeal while the ones for K 1600 B improve its touring capabilities. The R nineT Racer competes against the Triumph Thruxton R while the K 1600 B goes up against the Indian Roadmaster and the Harley-Davidson Road Glide
Special.
