Bluesky has published the protocol code for "decentralized Twitter"

The Twitter-funded project to develop an open decentralized standard for social networks Bluesky has published the first part of the open source protocol Authenticated Data eXperiment (ADX).

In a message titled "Working in Public," the developers clarified that the release includes a personal data server, a command-line client and a general overview of the network architecture.

The team promised to publicly share the development process of the platform, "releasing work before its completion, but also giving themselves time to develop new directions at an early stage."

"Feel free to experiment, but don't try to build your next big social app on it yet. Something is missing, and everything will change. We wrote the code to test ideas and identify borderline cases as part of the research process, not for the finished product," the developers said.

According to them, the core of ADX is "self-identification data", which allows you to independently certify actions on the network:

"Self-authentication data transfers authority to the user and remains relevant on each host. Users can publish in any service or in their own, but at the same time remain part of the network."

Bluesky noted that "it is impossible to build a usable social network without moderation." For their concept of this process, the developers used two layers: "speech" and "coverage".

"The level of speech can be as neutral as the publication of a website. The coverage layer determines what is being amplified over the network."

According to them, moderation will be carried out with the help of indexers that work similarly to search engines on the Internet:

"There is not a single company that could decide what will be published. Instead, there is a market of companies determining what to bring to their audiences."

Recall that Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey announced the creation of an initiative aimed at decentralizing social networks in 2019. In February 2022, the Bluesky PBLLC organization appeared.
