Give Blood, Save Life

"It's time to roll up our sleeves & save a life.. of course, including ours!"

Our group was excited when our office announced that they will be conducting and sponsoring a Blood Letting Activity. Donating blood is included in our #friendshipgoals.

Thus, we have reminded each and everyone of us the following:

Have enough rest and sleep at least 8 hours.
No alcohol intake 24 hours prior to our blood donation.
No medications for at least 24 hours prior to our blood donation.
Have something nutritious to eat prior to blood donation, avoid fatty foods.
Drink plenty of fluid, like water or juice.
And so, the day has arrived.. yahoo!!! We arrived promptly at the venue 'coz we are sssoo excited. hehe! Without further ado, we did the following steps:

  1. Had our weight taken. (I did not worry of being rejected because of weight insufficiency.)
  2. Registered and honestly completed the donor registration form.
  3. Had our blood type and hemoglobin checked.(I have A+ blood type)
  4. The physician conducted a blood donor examination and a simple interview.

After the first-three steps, we proceeded:

  1. Actual donation

Few minutes before the extraction, a super duper funny moment happened. (not that embarrassing though! hahahah!) The folding bed that i had lied down failed to carry my weight.. char! Nagfold ang bed kaya ako, natupi din ako. hihihi!! At first, I was happy because no one had the opportunity to take a photo or even a video due to the sudden turn of events. But then, there was the CCTV. hahahahaha!!! Our RITO reviewed the video. then poooffff... they saw me tumbling aand folding down. hahahahahah!!!

Anyways, that was a scene to relieve everyone who was skittish. hahahaha! The Red Cross staff couldn't find the nerve needed for the needle. But still, Im thankful because I never had Vasovagal reactions.

and finally after few minutes, 450 cc of blood had been transferred to the blood bag.

After the successful extraction of blood, I waited for about 10 minutes before I finally stood up. Upon standing, i felt lighter (hopefully my weight would follow. hahaha). A staff of Red Cross handed me my A+ baller ID and my donor card where all my donations will be recorded. They had also prepared arozcaldo as our after-donating-snack. hehe!

Here also are my friend who donated blood...

Donating blood is as good for your health as it is for the receiver. To mention, here are some of the heath benefits that a donor could get:

Aids in the weight loss of the donor.
Helps in lowering the risk of cancer.
Helps in reducing the risk of hemochromatosis.
Beneficial in reducing heart and liver ailments caused by iron overload.
Stimulates the production of new blood cells and helps in maintaining good health.
Doing good for others is one way to live a longer life.
So after 3 months, our blood is ready again to break away!!! :)
