World Thalassemia Day is today Blood test claims before marriage
About seven thousand children in Bangladesh are born with thalassemia every year. The number in the world is one hundred thousand. Thalassemia inherited disease Hemoglobin is not adequate in the patient's blood. It causes severe anemia. Thalassemia is usually found in children between one to two years of birth. If the proper treatment is not done, the patient dies between 10 to 15 years. Today is World Thalassemia Day on Tuesday. The theme of the day is 'Blood test after marriage, blood will be childless'. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said on the occasion of the day. On the occasion of the day, Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation seminar was arranged at the CIRDAP Auditorium in the city on Monday. On behalf of the Foundation, the demand was made for compulsory blood testing before marriage. Bangladesh Thalassemia Foundation Secretary General in the seminar. Abdur Rahim said that if both husband and wife are the thalassemia carriers, then the child may have this disease. But if there is a healthy child, there is no danger of this disease. There are 17 million weddings in Bangladesh every year. It is possible to evaluate risk-free couples through a blood test before marriage. State minister for health and family welfare Zahid Malek urged the public to raise public awareness about the disease. He said that awareness will increase among people when they are officially campaigning against blood tests before marriage. People will accept it as awareness increases. And it requires the advice of the law ministry to make it compulsory. Talking to the Ministry of Social Welfare, the Health Minister assured the subsidies to the people suffering from this disease. Presided over by Director General of Health Department Abul Kalam Azad, the meeting was addressed by Bangladesh Public Service Commission Secretariat Secretary Akhteri Momtaj and President of Bangladesh Medical Association Mustafa Jalal Mohiuddin. Meanwhile, Bangladesh Thalassemia Association organized a roundtable meeting at the World Literature Center. Benazir Ahmed, National Consultant of Health Department, was the chief guest. Present doctors, civil society representatives and thalassemia patients and their guardians. The president of the hospital Omar Golam Rabbani chaired the meeting. Principal Chief Executive Officer Ekramul Hossain read the main article. Doctors said that 10 percent of the people are carrying thalassemia genes. 4 percent of them are affected by thalassemia. To survive, people with this disease have to take regular blood.
