DESOLATENESS
"FOR I WILL MAKE THE LAND MOST DESOLATE, her arrogant strength shall cease, and the mountains of Israel shall be so desolate that no one will pass through."
Ezekiel 33:28 (NKJV)
Comment: Stubbornness or being stiff-necked or recalcitrant would make one suffer unnecessarily. The Israelites were made to see the other side of God, because of their disobedience and rebellion. God can use anything to humble an erring child of His. When you are being called to change or amend your ways, do not hesitate to obey; when the other side of God is seen you would wish you had not done what you did wrong.
- God is making the land of Israel desolate because of the abominations which they had committed (Ezekiel 33:29). Some of the things they did wrong that prompted what God wanted to do to them, make their land desolate, are mentioned in the same chapter:
25 “THEREFORE SAY TO THEM, ‘THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD: “YOU EAT MEAT WITH BLOOD, YOU LIFT UP YOUR EYES TOWARDS YOUR IDOLS, AND SHED BLOOD. Should you then possess the land? 26 YOU RELY ON YOUR SWORD, YOU COMMIT ABOMINATIONS, AND YOU DEFILE ONE ANOTHER'S WIVES. SHOULD YOU THEN POSSESS THE LAND?” ’ (Ezekiel 33:25–26 (NKJV).
The sins of the people, the Israelites, are listed:
a. They eat meat with blood. It was forbidden in the law given to them (Acts 15:29).
b. They look towards idols. In other words, they put their trust in idols (Psalm 16:4).
c. They shed blood. They killed innocent people.
d. They rely on their swords. They relied and trusted in their own abilities (Proverbs 3:5,6).
e. They commit abominations. Abominations mentioned there means something disgusting morally; abhorrent or abominable.
f. They defile one another's wives. Sexual immorality was made rampant. In other words, adultery was the order of the day—defiling one another's wives (Acts 15:29).
All the sins mentioned in the Bible passage that provoked God to make the land of Israel desolate are equally found in our society and the church today.
Desolation could be made happen in a nation as the case of the Israelites, and also could be allowed in the life of an individual believer. Desolation is one of the ways through which God disciplines His people, the children of His who rebelled against His words.
A church or ministry can experience desolation. In fact, God can scatter what He started, a ministry or church; If He saw in it what was not in His plan about the place—when His plan or will is not being fulfilled.
The first world was brought to an end because the sins in it grieved God's heart daily. He regretted of creating mankind: 5 THEN THE LORD SAW THAT THE WICKEDNESS OF MAN WAS GREAT IN THE EARTH, AND THAT EVERY INTENT OF THE THOUGHTS OF HIS HEART WAS ONLY EVIL CONTINUALLY. 6 AND THE LORD WAS SORRY THAT HE HAD MADE MAN ON THE EARTH, AND HE WAS GRIEVED IN HIS HEART. 7 SO THE LORD SAID, “I WILL DESTROY MAN WHOM I HAVE CREATED FROM THE FACE OF THE EARTH, BOTH MAN AND BEAST, CREEPING THING AND BIRDS OF THE AIR, FOR I AM SORRY THAT I HAVE MADE THEM" " (Genesis 6:5-7 NKJV).
If God could destroy or scatter the whole world He created, when He was not pleased with what He saw in it; It means there is nothing of yours that would be too big for Him to scatter If you erred or disobeyed Him.
If you would not want a desolation in your ministry or assignment, businesses, finances, or whatever area of your life;
you would do well to heed God when He is warning you and calling you to order.
Peace.
