BLOW THE TRUMPET IN ZION
"BLOW THE TRUMPET IN ZION, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; FOR THE DAY OF THE LORD IS COMING, FOR IT IS AT HAND."
Joel 2:1 (NKJV)
Comment: The day of the LORD is being talked about in this passage of the Bible. It is explained and expatiated through verse 1 to 11 of this Joel chapter 2. The day would not be a good and glamorous day that anyone would anticipate.
a. It would be a day of darkness and gloominess, of clouds and thick darkness, and a day in which foreign armies would invade the land (Joel 2:2).
b. The description of the armies was given in the passage (Joel 2:2-10).
This passage is simply telling us that there would be a time which God would allow those who despised His Word to reap the fruit of whatever they had sown (Galatians 6:7).
The essence of the message to the Israelites is repentance (Joel 2:12-15).
a. They should change their ways; be remorseful, call on God with fasting and praying, rend their hearts and not their clothes (Joel 2:12-14).
b. They should call solemn assembly; sombre or grave assembly (Joel 2:15).
c. That they should deny themselves pleasures, in order to seek God's face (Joel 2:16).
d. That the priests should weep and supplicate (Joel 2:17). God expected them to humble themselves, be repentant and return to Him—God (2 Chronicles 7:14).
This same kind of call is being made to every believer who's life is not right with God. If you had not been faithful and steadfast in your walk with God, It is the high time to come back to Him and rededicate your life fully.
Now is the time to be serious with your Christian faith and stop taking the Grace of God in vain or for nothing: "WE THEN AS WORKERS TOGETHER WITH HIM ALSO PLEAD WITH YOU NOT TO RECEIVE THE GRACE OF GOD IN VAIN" (2 Corinthians 6:1 NKJV).
Someone who received the grace of God in vain is a person or a believer who had the opportunity of being fed or taught with the Word of God, but did nothing with what he or she had been taught.
a. Such neither pray on the Word they heard nor put the Word into practice.
b. Such a person or believer is even prayed for to amend or change his or her way of living, counselled severally, but heeded not; such is being indifference to the Word of God.
A person of such is taking the grace of God in vain, and also taking for granted the goodness and forbearance of God (Romans 2:3-9).
Since the supposed believer refuses to grow and practice the Word learnt; he or she could definitely do nothing with the knowledge acquired. They could be considered or likened to a barren fig tree in Jesus' parable (Luke 13:6,7).
The knowledge you are privileged to acquire should be practiced and be used to build yourself up; and subsequently be used to teach and equip or train others for their edification and the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12).
Peace.
