Great to see the community coming together to help and protect one another. This is a perfect example of people not needing the government to solve our problems. Too often, I hear the argument that only police and people in authority should have guns. The reality is, the police show up only after a crime has taken place. Why shouldn't people have the right to protect themselves anymore? The data surrounding gun control is so variable around the world, and I believe it comes down to education. When people are educated about safety, and proper handling, and can fully comprehend the consequences of firing a gun then they are more responsible. Plus, criminals will find access to weapons regardless of the restrictions so more gun control just leaves responsible citizens unarmed and more vulnerable. My brain is just tumbling with thoughts right now! This is definitely a lengthy topic of discussion. -Aimee

I just heard that exact thing yesterday, that only people in authority should have “those kinds of guns”. It definitely sounds (to me) like a dangerously vulnerable and maybe even naive way to exist in the event of needing to protect ourselves and our kids from those who set out to harm us but it’s clear that society is conditioned to believe that those situations don’t happen.

I hope we can collectively “wake up!” especially for the sake of families who have very little choice about where their children are each day due to economic, legal and political barriers that tend to vary quite drastically between states and make all the difference for a family to be together “24/7 if they wish. I personally think our kids are safer with us at home than at school, so I think It’s crazy that we live in a day & age where families can be criminalized and torn apart at the whim of the state/government declaring truancy towards those who don’t want to opt into schools. Luckily our state has fairly little of that in comparison to others but we still constantly dream of moving to a more free place.

So glad you’re asking the same questions :) I look forward to hearing more or your thoughts on the topic if you ever choose to elaborate on this since we’re both on this path of mommahood and all it will surely be an interesting read! 💜

I couldn't agree more! We are waiting for the hammer to drop, so to speak, as well. Sometimes we feel like we are in a giant social experiment, watching everyone just fall in line without question. Well, I guess not everyone but a vast majority of people anyway. The hubs did a rant on gun control and home schooling a little while ago but they were shorties, I imagine he will elaborate at a later date. We are also planning to homeschool. Not only are kids safer at home, but I believe they have access to better education. At home kids can be taught how think and how to problem solve, unlike schools where they are taught what to think and to rely on others to solve problems for them. Plus, there seems to be less emphasis on family units and more emphasis chasing the elusive American Dream these days. I am glad to see a shift towards creating stronger family ties again. -Aimee
