Yeah of course it has to be a cool product. But when it's a familiar face selling it people will buy without thinking too much. I think it's worth it to pay them as long as you can still make sales and be profitable.

Honestly I don't think Steemit will prevent them from wanting to get paid. They'll probably still ask for money. I know I would.
