HOW CERTAIN CONSONANT LETTERS ARE PRONOUNCED

Lets continue this previous post on pronunciation. Some of the commonly used English words in which certain consonant letters are silent are listed below:

The consonant 'b' is silent before 't' in words like:

doubt
undoubtedly
indebted
indebtedness
debt
debtor
subtlety
subtle

It is however, pronounced in
Subtlety and subterfuge
It is silent after 'm' in words like the following:

bomb
climb
comb
crumb
dumb
limb
numb
plumb
succumb
thumb
womb
plumber

It is pronounced in the following words also

timber
combat
bombard
lumber
number
clamber

It is nearly always silent in the following word
Handkerchief, Handsome
It is often silent in many other words in which it occurs between 'n' and another consonant letter

grandchild
handful
granddad
handmade
sandstorm
sandbag
handcuff
sandpaper

It is silent before 'j' in words like the following:

adjacent
adjudge
adjutant
adjourn
adjoin
adjunct
adjective
adjudicate
adjure
