Setting up a new homelab "rack"

in #blog8 years ago

Everyone needs their workbench

That special place best equipped to deal with new projects and ideas. For some it's a place to shape wood, solder electronics, create paintings... For me, it's a rack of computer clients, routers and switches.

Here's what I started with - an empty plastic tower with shelves that I didn't completely trust. From it, I imagined where I would best be able to work around clunky components.

An old desktop and a box of miscellaneous computer parts are what I refer to most often. This is where I keep things such as hard drives, RAM, labelmakers, and different IT tools that I use.

Next I wanted to bring a power source to the rack. An old UPS (that I paid next-to-nothing for) is what I had on hand, however upgrades are in the future.

I'm also using a fabric cubby system so I can easily access the books and written resources that I refer to often.

The bucket is designated for wires and cables.

I hope you enjoyed this blog! Steemit is a big support system to my homelab and independent education. Thank you.
