Minus 100 Degrees Celsius, This is the Coldest Place on Earth
Scientists have previously known that the lowest temperature ever measured on Earth is in the frozen highlands of eastern Antarctica, near the South Pole. However, recently they discovered a new fact. Temperatures in the region could fall lower than previously measured. New analysis showed, the temperature dropped almost minus 100 degrees Celsius. Scientists suspect, this is probably the coldest point on Earth. For information, analysis of 2013 satellite data shows temperatures in the East Antarctic highlands are minus 93 degrees Celsius.
This is where the Earth is so close to its limit. Almost like being on another planet, "said Ted Scambos, a researcher at the National Snow and Ice Data Center at the University of Colorado, Boulder, proclaimed National Geographic, Wednesday (27/06/2018) .The experts analyzed satellite data during the long winter at the poles to find out how much temperatures it is in the area. This is the only way it can be done because there is no weather station there and nobody can check the Antarctic temperature in the middle of winter directly. satellite passes over Antarctica, it can record temperatures on the ice surface.
Scambos and his colleagues analyzed satellite data collected during July-August between 2004 and 2016. Temperature was measured in small basins in the Antarctic Highlands near the South Pole at an altitude of 3800 meters. Next the researchers mapped out when and wherever the lowest temperatures were. Sure enough, researchers found around 100 small areas scattered in the highest part of the ice sheet, where temperatures there can reach minus 100 degrees Celsius. East Antarctica does look flat on the surface, but actually shaped dome from center to tip like a turtle shell is vast.
