That Little Voice in Your Head
Sometimes I share my thoughts or experiences with a group of friends or coworkers, and unexpectedly get a quick response of validation. When it’s not sought and not expected like that I feel pleased, surprised, and humbled that anyone is watching my process.
Other times, I write something out for myself that’s longer, “bigger”, and then I drum up the nerve to share it with the group...and nothing comes. Just silence for a while. And I wait. And I check. And I REREAD what I posted to see if it was okay.
Why do we seek feedback and validation (aka looking for a response) even on a post about no longer needing feedback and validation? 😆
Sometimes our thoughts go, “ it’s not that I need validation. Fuck them! I don’t need their approval anymore. It’s just connection I crave now. I’m just trying to make sure my message went out and was heard. That’s all...”
I think that’s still ego.
Basically, ego doesn’t exist beyond the voice in our head. Our bodies are inhabited by a little spark of life force called consciousness. Our bodies are just tools through which that little spark of consciousness operates within and gets to experience the world. Consciousness just seeks to be, to bloom and to flow. It just wants to experience... anything...everything! It has no capacity for discernment, judgment, or categorizing good versus bad or up versus down.
That’s where ego comes in. It’s a greedy, hungry data intake machine. It’s a parasite along for the ride thinking it’s driving. It keeps track of where and how its little unit of consciousness is oriented among all the other little units/humans in space, time, and accumulation of stuff.
Mmm... so even when ego quiets down and consciousness has a MOMENT of relative silence to “be” and to express the experience of being (like making a comment amongst friends about not needing approval anymore) ego hears that shit and rouses! Like a sleepy disoriented child it wakes and start chattering:
“what? Did you just say something to the group? Let me see what you said… Damn, that’s good except you should’ve said this, and maybe not have said that. Why aren’t they responding? ...Wow you posted that several minutes ago and they are NOT responding. Refresh. Refresh! Probably because of the should and should not I pointed out. Can we just delete !? You should have asked me before you posted that. Maybe you shouldn’t have posted at all… blah blah blah” 🤯😫😂
Ego rarely shut up! It’s job is to constantly evaluate where its host human stands in space and time and on the social and economic hierarchy because those are REAL to it! It basically functions as a psychological proprioceptor. It’s just trying to keep you safe, face you towards what it thinks is upright, and as high up on its scale of judgment as it can.
So the experience of life seems to be a packaged deal. Consciousness gets to experience the wonder of life by manifesting via a physical body that can see, hear, smell, taste, touch and make love...and ego comes along for the ride judging, clinging, bitching and occasionally high-fiving itself. Best we can do is learn to discern which one is driving moment to moment.
always you have some special things ideas to share with your followers as i see you always have something new to share with your followers thank you.

Ego is good!
just like the balance that makes up the core of yoga, ego is what balances out the extreme values of consiousness.. without ego u will become a victim no matter who you surround yourself with, it's that feeling inside you that makes you appreciate your value and lift you highly in self reflection, gives you the confidence and the drive to face whatever is there in life that puts you down.
The secret i think lies in your ability to control the ego and make it an added value instead of an instrument of destruction.
It’s useful. It’s an operating tool. Not sure I’d call it good or bad, but it certainly ever present. For me, Discernment is the key so we can notice when we are operating from ego or from dharma.
If you use the ego for just getting a job done than it's the perfect tool. It is its use.
Consciousness is life, while ego is the little butler that serves consciousness. If you let the butler decide then expect needs for approval, mood changes and all its egoistic colors.
It doesn't like to be. Its favorite verb is to have...more of everything.
My motto about the ego: use it, but don't believe it.
Oh so true. You totally get it, brother.

Deep reflection. I am often visited by similar thoughts. You are so consonant with them, indeed, our body is only a mechanism for obtaining various sensations. The main the crux of the in consciousness. What we feel, what emotions we experience at the same time, how good/ how bad it will be. That there is evil and good. But our body, as a naive child, it only wants to experience the new. And consciousness as a responsible parent decides what to try and what to leave aside.
EGO backwards is OGE (Only Great Experiences).
We need to get out of our heads as that is where they programmed us to be, throughout our lives. It is where they (and now all) want us to stay, but we must challenge that by living from our physical and spiritual experiences in the real world, not the mental shite of theirs. Bravo Girl keep hammering... like HULK,SMASH!
Thanks my friend. :) I don’t really believe in a “they” any more. I have tendencies to get stuck in my head and some of my upbringing probably reinforced it, but mainly this is just how I’m wired. Maybe I’m wrong, but I see no powers that be to blame for this. Just me working through the cards I was dealt.
Reshuffle that deck!
Hi Steemed-open,
I know you dont need validation from me, a new follower.
I read, saw your nice body and spirit in this post.
Nice yoga pose.
Right! sometimes feeding our ego too much can really result in nasty little things we don't like.
Wonderful post. :)
I like to think about those dialogues between ego and consciousness as all things which happen within our brains. I like to think we can train our brains, like any other muscle, to act as "we" want.
The trick is figuring out the "we" part, I guess. :)
