In a press conference held at the Sonargaon Hotel in the city on Sunday, the Global Organization of Mobile Operators, GSMA, presented three reports on the mobile phone sector of Bangladesh.

One of the three reports was about taxation matters. Wherever it is said, due to excessive tax, operators have not been able to provide better services even after trying hard enough.

In some countries, it is said that there is no such tax on mobile phone services in any country. Presentations Presented by GSMA's Working Head of Asia Pacific Emanuel Lynchy

He said mobile phone operators in Bangladesh have less than three dollars per month of consumer revenues. Spectrum is the world's most expensive price In this regard, Digital Bangladesh is difficult to implement, he said.

He said that half the amount of spectrum needed to provide quality services to the customers is not able to buy it, mainly due to the price. In the ceremony, top officials of Amitabh General Secretary TIM Nurul Kabir and other operators of mobile phone operators were present.

It is reported that Bangladesh is ranked ninth in the list of the world's largest mobile market. And the position in the Asia-Pacific region is five.

Their report says that in 2025, the number of mobile users of mobile broadband technology will exceed the number of 3G subscribers. Meanwhile, the report further said that among the countries of Asia-Pacific region, Bangladesh is the lowest in terms of mobile internet usage.

GSMA has given such information. According to the organization, only 21 percent of the people in Bangladesh have a mobile internet connection, which is the lowest among this region. According to GSMA 2017 information, one of the five people subscribed to the mobile Internet at the time.

Although Bangladesh came under the 3G network at that time; But still the ratio was such. Even countries like Nepal and Myanmar, who have less GDP than GDP or less in the country's production, are also ahead of the use of mobile internet. There are 28 to 35 percent percentages.

The report further said that most subscribers are using phone calls and SMS services mainly on mobile phones.

GSMA says in their observation that the issue of people's capabilities here is a major obstacle. It is not possible for poor people. Increasing the overall expenditure of mobile operators due to high taxes and fees in the mobile sector. As a result, direct retail prices increase, which is a burden on users.

This is also a significant barrier to digital progression. For example, as a result of taxation in mobile services in Bangladesh, tariff expenditure is much higher (22 percent) than the neighboring countries. In the Asia-Pacific region, the tax rate for mobile services is 10.4 dollars and $ 14.6 in the world, in Bangladesh there is a rate of $ 2.69. GSMA says that the goal of building a digital Bangladesh in 2021 is required for mobile waves and tax reforms.

At affordable rates, mobile services, taxation rates and Internet wave prices can be barred from meeting the target. After seven years, mobile users in the country will be 41 percent of the total population.

GSMA says that 21 percent of the country's people are currently using the internet. And due to the expansion of the Forge, this number will increase by 20 percent in 2025. In a part of the report, the speed of internet speed is also highlighted, Bangladesh is in the position below the Internet speed (download) direction.

According to the calculation of 2017, the internet speed is the lowest in Asia among the 11 countries in Asia, in the second five months to 08.80 megabits. The top spot is Vietnam, the country has 19.9 megabits per second speed. Besides, 15.78 Mbps in Malaysia, 15.43 Mbps in Bhutan

Internet speed in India is 8.92 MBps in India and 12.77 MBPS in Myanmar. According to BTRC's calculation, the effective internet connection in the country at the end of December was 86 million.

Meanwhile, the GSMA report also says that by 2025, Internet usage in Bangladesh will reach 41 percent, of which nearly half will be in the forege.

In addition to the number of internet users, GSMA claims the number of mobile subscribers in the country is five and a half million. But BTRC accounts for more than fourteen crore effective connections in the country.

Because of that, the mobile phone panitrations as BTRC is more than 86 percent, but GSMA is not saying more than half of it. But by 2025, there will be 20 million people in the hands of mobile operators, the organization said.
