The most ANCIENT parliament in the world
In the year 930 d. C. The Vikings of Iceland constituted the first democratic parliament in the world in Þingvellir. In this magical valley where the North American tectonic plate and the Eurasian plate collide, the representatives of the clans met once a year to settle the affairs of a country without laws.
Þingvellir is declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO as "Cultural Landscape". In Iceland, there is only one other well-declared interest of UNESCO, Surtsey, volcanic island of natural interest but which is difficult to access by normal tourist routes. In Þingvellir we can also live the experience of walking inside a fault.
