The Secret Life of a Starving Writer
I stand at the sink running the hot water and watch as the foamy suds conjure themselves into scrubbing bubbles from Dawn dish washing detergent. I add a drop of bleach to disinfect that stinking, gross yellow sponge with the green scrubby thing on one side. Yes, my least favorite chore is doing dishes. I have a dishwasher but it's from the 70's and I don't think it works and to be frank I'm afraid to even try it. As I look at the old dead dish washer my mind conjures up image of a scene in my head of the kitchen floor being covered with the same white foamy suds piling up in my sink. I shake the image from my head and turn off the water. I stick my hand in the sink only to find the water is too hot. Damn, that hot water heater is acting up again. So, I let the dishes sit and soak while I sit down with my third cup of coffee and a cookie...well, more like cookies...the package.
I love to my local newspaper! It's great! It's not really any different from most papers with the exception of one little section called "Law and Order" which host the mug shots of everyone arrested my county as of recently. Nothing quiet beats improving your self worth like reading about total strangers in deep trouble with the law. I can see who got arrested and why. It's most entertaining to be honest and scary at the same time to think that there are so many stupid people in my county alone.
Oops, almost forgot all about the dishes. I go to the sink and and let out a heavy sigh as all the water seeped out for I didn't have the plug thing seated in the drain properly. Yup, I have a sink full of dirty dishes covered in suds with no water to be found. I should have just used cold water in the first place!
Hi rachelinny,
Your writing style is really good!
Thanks for sharing it!
Thank you, I'm new here and still figuring it out. Thanks for commenting.
Amen, sister. SO. MANY. TIMES.
Glad to know I'm not alone.
thank you, sorry I didn't reply earlier...I just figured that feature out.
We starving writers are so much alike... Yet I'm not sure if it's because of the writing, or because of the starving! Still, I really like your style. Getting lost in someone else´s story happens way too often, usually at the expense of our mental health or our dirty dishes. At least you good a blog out of it!
Today I burned my lunch because I was writing about my cat. Here's the proof! https://steemit.com/story/@jean.racines/the-blob
By the way, upvoted and followed! May the writing community starve together!
thank you for commenting. I will check out your link.
Amazing writing! I wrote a story on my blog, you should check it out. Followed!
I will, thanks for commenting.
writing from your lived experience is the best way to develop your own voice. You need to get your own pain before you have something to say. You're heading in the right direction :)
thank you, still figuring this steemit thing out.
