Good morning Steemit
Busy day again!
We've got some bread in the oven and after we eat that, we have to leave home for the rest of the day. Going to go to my home to load up our car again and after that, we'll go to my dad!
It's my dad's birthday today, so that's a good reason to visit, right? It's his wife's birthday a couple of days after that, so I prepared a little gift basket for both of them.
We'll be having dinner with them aswell, so we probably won't be home until later in the evening. That's why I'm writing now!
So, I still had some days to catch up on. Mainly, new years! I promised you some pictures I think!
These are the Appelflappen my mum makes every new years. It's basically apple slices, mixed with cinnamon sugar, then dough and after that, they get fried. They are so tasty! She also makes Oliebollen:
Basically everyone eats these during new years. Some make them themselves, others simply buy them from one of the many stands that sell them around this time. My mum adds raisins to them, though I like them more without raisins. We usually eat them with powdered sugar.
Our new years was pretty quiet. My mum was here and my boyfriend's dad came over for a while aswell. We watched a comedian on tv and stepped outside to watch the fireworks for a while. Seeing as we live in farmlands, there weren't any people close-by lighting fireworks, so we could watch from a safe distance. In the town center, there was plenty of fireworks, so we did get a good show!
And that was our new years. Pretty uneventful, but I like it that way!
Right, gotta eat now and leave after that.
Have a good day!

if your driving past Sheffield UK to visit your Dad call past mine and drop some of they look right nice. i'd make sure there was a pot of tea, or a nice hot coffee for you :)
Aww that sounds lovely! Sadly, UK is a bit out of my way :D
Hope you had a great start to your new years. They look really delicious, do you have the recipe or is it your family secret?
I could share a recipe for these sometime. I don't have one ready right now, but they are fairly common here, so plenty to find online. Those will mostly be Dutch though.
Those look delicious!! and Happy new year! :D
Seems you already planned the next few days activities, and the two pictures you uploaded looks like Dougnut and Bonce from Nigeria and they are quite delicious
Always a busy day, that shows you are a hard working lady. Keep it up. @playfulfoodie
Happy New Year! Your story presents the most beautiful way to spend away from the agitation of the city, in a very close way to my soul, a normal family meeting. Traditional sweets are delicious and they certainly remember childhood. Appelflappen seem a miracle and I want to do it myself. Thanks a lot for the beautiful story. Resteemed.
Thank you so much for your kind comment @bluemoon! This definitely was my prefered way of spending new years. I care nothing for the city life and much prefer a quieter environment with a few people :-)
This is the real life, in my opinion. They are happy people who can afford it! Thank you for the reply and upvote.
good morning dear have a nice day @playfulfoodie Resteemed
Sounds like a pleasant way to spend the new year.
Have you ever tried making jelly donuts at home? I think you'd dig that process, AND you could use whatever kind of jelly you'd like. Not exactly the healthiest, but super yummy.
I've never tried making donuts! I was actually thinking about it just yesterday, so I should definitely try it :D
The appelflappen look yummy, I've never tried anything like those before :)
They are so tasty! I love apple combined with cinnamon in basically anything :D
never heard of an appelflappen, it sure looks good!
Don't they? It's apple and cinnamon, what could go wrong there? :D
