BLOG - Searching for waves - Plans Change
Hi guys!
First of all thanks to all of you for your support so far! We are really enjoying creating our videos and sharing our tiny house journey with you. And that is actually why we have decided to create more actual blog content here on Steemit. Starting off with this story from the other day:
It’s been an extremely rainy winter here on the west coast of New Zealand, Taranaki. The weather is generally quite unpredictable here with a volcano, Mt. Taranaki, louring in all the clouds from the open ocean. This same phenomena tends to also affect the surf, sometimes creating opportunities when the forecasts are not looking promising.
Four of us jumped in the car one random Tuesday and headed south down the coast for the search of a bay that was hidden from the strong winds, which was ruining the surf in most locations. The coast here is filled with many turn offs; following some farmer’s tracks you are most likely to stumble up on a surf break.
Thirty minutes later we arrived to notice that the wind had just gotten stronger and the waves we were looking at were all blown over and crumbly. There was no chance that we would surf today. We thought this spot was our last option, at least until one of us mentioned a sheltered bay.
Ten or so minutes later we had our surfboards under our arms, wetsuits in our bags and we were climbing over a farmer’s fence. We left our shoes behind and set out to cross the cow paddocks to reach this possible wave. Remember the rain I mentioned earlier; well let’s just say that the going was very slippery.
The bay was perfect; it provided the shelter needed from the wind. However, the tide was too high for this break and we had arrived a bit too late to score any waves here. We were devastated and headed to the near by beach to just chill and relax in the nature. We got to climb some sand dunes and leave our steps in the fresh sand.
After the lovely hit of nature it was time to recharge with coffee at the local surf shop. Warming cuppa was just what we needed to maintain our optimistic vibes, since as we sat back in the car the rain started. We were still hopeful enough to check few more spots on the way home as we headed back up the coast.
As a the ultimate last check we drove to a surf break closer to home, just in case the surf has changed. It seemed that the rain might have changed the wind a bit. And we were in luck! To our surprise this local favourite spot had what we have been looking for the whole day. It didn’t take us long to suit up and jump in the water.
What a day it had been just hanging out, searching for waves and eventually scoring a couple of fun ones, just at the door step. We would love to hear about your recent extempore adventure. Please feel free to share in comments below.

Thanks @bitgeek! Stoked!
I don't see a video. May be you forgot to upload it ?
This was just a blog post trial for now. As mentioned we are excited to share more content here on Steemit in other formats than just video :)
A combination of videos, pictures, and writing would be the best.
Heya, I'm just swinging by here as it looks like you're providing quality content travelers would enjoy!
I've made a web-application that just came out of beta mode, where you can automatically add your posts to the worldmap! You can see the result so far here: http://www.steemitworldmap.com! I would love to see your posts on the map too! (You can add older posts too, as long as you can still edit them)!
If you would like some more information on how it works you can check out the introduction post!
