I'm inclined to disagree that Apple will "rule the world". They are followers and high-end consumer rent-seekers. They take mostly existing technology, wrap it in fancy design and high quality implementation and manage to extract 50% margin from those who want to be associated with a luxury brand. They are the Audi to Volkswagen, the DeBeers to Zales, the Champagne to sparkling wine. Only the fact that they amassed a huge cash hord is what has allowed them to continue being so dominent inspite of now rather slim slice of the market.
