Woke Up Today To Find 3.5 More Horses In Our Paddock! Some Neat Pictures & An Example Of The Benefits Of Forging Local Relationships

in #blog7 years ago

Today we awoke to find three and a half more horses on our property!

The "half" is called Sprocket and he's adorable. This was the view to our southern paddocks this morning. Check out Will's cheeky tongue!

...so how did this happen? I hear you ask.

Well yesterday during my first day at a new job I received a text message from my wife to say that there was a bush fire at the end of our street.

We happen to know the young couple at the end of our street due to being involved with horses and they'd asked whether they could keep their 4 fluffy babies at our place until the danger passes. For them, this was really a god-send as it's not easy to house 4 horses anywhere temporarily if their home paddocks become uninhabitable.

It turns out that the fire came mighty close to their property. It actually burned through some of their electric fencing meaning that their horses weren't able to be contained. Now, the thought occurred to me that our relationship with them proved to be very useful and as self sufficient as you can try to be in life, there will always be circumstances that occur that can't be mitigated against, avoided or predicted that require the assistance of others.

We are private and independent people but among all the efforts to pursue self sufficiency in the financial, health and prepping domains, it's important not to forget investments in the relationship domain also. This is an important component of a resilient life as you'll never know when you'll need to draw down on your relationship investments in times of need; times that can happen at any time for any reason.

Something important to consider! Thanks for reading.

good article

Good article,
I just voted, you
I follow,
Help each other :) @azziz

This is very true. Where I live is not ideal in a lot of ways, but we've lived here for 20 years and know quite a few of our neighbors.
After finding out the truth of how messed up things are, I did some homework on prepping. The bottom line was that, if you know the people around you, generally you're better off where you are than being a stranger in a strange new land.

Love the pics. Such beautiful guests!

I begun get curious on the 1/2 until I found the pony.

I was tricky with that one, huh @cloudspyder 😎

Is the pony yours? I have a thing for ponies lol

I used to know this Shetland called Harley who I'd hang out with whenever the misses was at the stables ... he'd wicker when ever I came up because he knew he was about to get a bunch of grass lol

That would be a like, follow, and share.

I need some horses on my page for sure.

Have a terrific day.

Howdy fellow #thealliance member! I had something happen when a horse appeared in our pasture as well...however ours was unannounced. It was chased by or was running with wild horses and "fell" across our fence..Our is woven so this was not an easy task...a post was broken and she had a baby on the other side...fortunately the baby was about 6-8 months so it did survive...She was so spooked we could never get her out...she died about a year later..hit by lightning or it was a snakebite...She would run up onto the hill when we would come to the ranch and she was so beautiful with her mane flowing in the air...She was such a treat...we felt bad but had no other horses but our donkey was so happy she had fallen in... :) Never hurts to have a friend with a pasture! Sweet pictures! Hope the new job is going well!
Peace and joy,
melissa
