Ignoring the Advice

So I started an account, posted once...and then didn't post for two months. Ha.

Probably because I'd read too many "here's how to succeed on Steemit!" articles. I figured there must be a norm here, and I wanted my posts to fit with that norm, whatever it was.

I tried to follow the advice. Which was, mainly, pick a topic and stick to it, and provide massive "value" to everyone. They all used the word "value" about a million times, which was off-putting.

But I couldn't quite finish anything. The motivation wasn't there.

I realize now what the block was: I didn't really want to optimize for monetary success, which was the underlying message of all those articles.

What I actually want from this account/platform is just an old-school personal blog. Like, LiveJournal-style. (Remember LiveJournal?)

I write about specific topics elsewhere. It's a smart tactic if you want to grow an audience and monetize. But I don't want to do that here.

Instead, I'm eager to have a little place on the web to write random stuff, from my own perspective, because I haven't done that in a while. (Probably not since LiveJournal, now that I think of it.) I miss the nourishment of it, if you know what I mean. The satisfaction of simply getting my thoughts down, and maybe picking up a bit of self-knowledge along the way.

So I'll be ignoring all the advice. Maybe I'll have zero readers, but that's fine. At least I'll be posting more often.
