Monitor pc / tv to play video games on pc, it technology and how to find?
In the 90s, playing video games was for most of us, connecting your console to a CRT.
Some had a computer with a monitor, which allowed for long hours of play, without hogging the family TV.
Since the early 2000s, computers have nothing to envy to the latest generation consoles.
They are scalable, efficient and always at the forefront of technology.
Today it happens very often that a player has a PC with monitor + another PC connected to the TV for video games in big screen (see also in video projector).
We will see in this article that there are several essential technologies to play in the best conditions.
In my previous article, I talked about gsync, ulmb, and frequency specific to pc monitor (although the first tv gsync / freesync begin to appear)
We will complete our research in gaming technologies by talking about response time, imput lag etc.
Imput lag
Our old cathode ray TVs did not know this phenomenon, but video processing and other advanced technologies make lcd suffer a delay between the action performed on the source (console, pc) and the result on the screen.
The sent signal goes through several processes before reproducing on the screen your actions.
This scourge for any fps player, combat and sports game can literally ruin your game moment.
Response time
This response time (or responsiveness of the screen) is specific to your tv or pc monitor.
Each pixel takes a while to appear and change colors. This caused problems of sharpness or trace on the screen (doubling of pixel, one appears and the other takes time to disappear).
We often see in manufacturer data, a response time between gray and gray which distorts the real data, and what arranges them.
Some tests show the passage from white to black which is much more reliable, but less rewarding for TVs.
A responsiveness must be less than 10 milliseconds to be considered very good for the game
Conclusion
Buying a tv gamer is more complicated than it seems.
TV is first and foremost family-oriented, and one will look for a good image for movies and everyday video. The game will be secondary and will remain for the most part a hobby.
For the most technology-sensitive, and for those who will ask a TV to make particular network fps, sport and approaching the standards of a pc monitor.
Nvidia has created a first gsync tv for gamer, but it is more a large PC monitor and remains unique and expensive.
()
For the rest of the players wanting to take pleasure even with nervous fps, there are things not to neglect for this purchase.
- An lag impput (lag time, display delay) of less than 30ms
- Response time (reactivity or remanence) less than 10ms, the top is the OLED which is below the millisecond.
Privilege the game mode of the TV can disable image enhancement overlay and give you a better responsiveness to play.
Hoping to have enlightened you for your future purchase ^^
