When you can't see the wood for the trees.

It’s funny isn’t it. Earth is the only planet we know off that has air in its atmosphere. The only planet to be green and full of life. The only planet we along with millions of other species and plants can live on. And all this is because we’re the only planet with trees. So why are we chopping down all the trees? I honestly can’t see why my fellow humans can’t see it. I have no qualifications in science, nor do I have a massively high I Q. I’m just a lorry driver who spends his life trundling up and down the uk’s roads at 55mph all day long but yet even I can see it. There are those among us who do not believe in global warming or claim it’s just another way to get money out of us. And they make some good points to, we’ve had two ice ages and we’ve warmed up since then. And that was a long time before kids were taken to school in a V8 Range Rovers. Then there’s the fact that Volcanoes chuck out far more carbon dioxide then we humans do. However, CO2 levels are measured around the world and the levels are shooting up even during the long periods of time when there are no volcanic eruptions. It can be no coincidence that the levels of CO2 have been shooting up since the invention of the steam engine and the start of industry. The truth is nature as in everything natural has a way, If your ill, your immune system will fight whatever nasty little thing is making you ill until your all better. I think the planet is the same. It’s not the CO2 we’re putting into the atmosphere that’s the problem but more that we’re chopping down the immune system that fights the CO2 and gives us pack fresh air. There are companies who are claiming to be carbon neutral by planting trees however we are destroying far more than we are planting. With deforestation caused by logging companies for wood, then theirs the illegal logging companies taking what they can. Farmers who will use a slash and burn technique to clear the forest causing even more CO2 and destroying the trees without even getting any use out of them to then reclaim the land as farm land. Bio fuels such as palm oil is another key player in this one. To build roads and in the UK I know of one duel carriageway where all the mighty oak trees next to the road were which where all over 100 years old were cut down as people with low standards of driving kept crashing into them and then died. A farmer who lives next door to me was made to chop down all his oak trees along the side of his field because they were branded as dangerous as a branch might fall off and kill somebody walking or driving along the road. If every farmer was made to do this there would be no trees left in the UK, what were the council thinking? Forests also tend to be rich in minerals such as gold, diamonds and lithium for your electric cars and gadgets so then mining companies move in and yet again destroy the forest, contaminating the land to get at the resources. So to sum it up we are destroying are planet whether or not you believe in global warming. By 2030 we might only have 10% of are rain forests left which is a real shame. 28000 species could become extinct in the next twenty five years while not forgetting the indigenous forest people who’ve lived there since the start of humanity who are also being deprived of their home and hunting grounds, Cures for some diseases have been found in some plants that only grow in tropical rain forests. Then there’s the other effects, trees not only remove co2 but also suck up large amounts of water while also binding the soil together. This means less flooding and landslides, I’ve lost count of the times I’ve seen trees cut down, land concreted over and built on. Then the land floods and the developers blame it on global warming, well they certainly didn’t help by chopping down the trees that were sucking up all the water and did you think you were helping global warming by chopping down the trees? If producing air made money then I strongly suspect we would start planting trees in the billions, however rather stupidly all mankind can see is a good profit margin. So my advice is this, if you want to buy land, buy woodland and then don’t do anything with it. Let it live and produce air and look beautiful. Give a home to many many beautiful species of animals. Work with nature and do not destroy it. Or you could buy a field and then plant trees that are of course natural to your country. In the uk we tend to plant trees that are not natural to the uk, these trees can be far less beneficial to the wildlife, plants that might grow on the ground and helping with climate change but they do however produce better profits for logging companies, Surprise surprise. I have a small amount of land and when I finish work to go and sit or walk around collecting dead wood for my log burner is an investment worth far more than building houses on. There is even a free source of food in there if only I knew which mushrooms are safe to eat and which ones will kill me, I am by no means a survival expert but I do like my mushrooms. My only ambition is to maybe go into bee keeping and have some bee hives in there for my own honey. Free honey for life, a source of free heat for my house and a beautiful woodlands to look at. Now that a real investment you can pass on to the kids.
