Ancient City Series #1 Kyme

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

Dear Steemit friends; I want to share the article I wrote about the Ancient City of Kyme.

B.C. It is the capital of the city of Aeolis, which was established in a deep bay to the south of the Candarli gulf by the Aioller, who migrated from the south of Hellas in the 2nd millennia, The Kymeliler were trading by sea during the 8th century BC; Some of the economies consisted of agriculture. It was an important harbor city due to its maritime trade and its location on the sea shore. Kyme is the center of many cities in Cilicia, including Side, and Friday in Southern Italy; The city was economically developed and enriched in the Archaic Period. The coin is one of the first colonies to emerge. In the Classical Period, Kyme has an important political position among the Aegean cities. Some important structures of the Hellenistic Period, construction and intensive craft activities have been seen in the city.

Kyme was discovered by travelers of the 1700's, and in the 1800's, D. Baltazzi and later by S. Reinach excavated in the southern necropolis. . During the Persian invasion, King Aristogoras of Kyme supported Darius, the Persian king, with the seafarer vessels he had arranged for the Skyth country in 512 B.D. While Xerkes occupied Hellas in 480 BC, the Persian Satrab Sandokes in Kyme contributed to the Persian navy with fifteen ships. After the establishment of the Delos Union, Kyme was forced to pay nine talent tax annually to the union. This tax was much more than the taxes paid by the Ionian cities.

B.C. In the 4th century, Kyme acted to seize Leukai from Closomenai. The Delfoi divination center sent Apollon's words to both sides that "it will belong to the people who will make the first sacrifice ceremony in Leukai". Later they sent a group of colonies to the opposite shores of the Clodomania Smyra Bay and declared their collecting place as Clodomenoni land. So the Klozomenai came to Leukai before Kyme and made sacrifice ceremony. In this way, they are considered war victims.

Established on two hills, Kyme, there are some remnants of some of the archaeologists who came to Europe from the late 19th century. But what remains of these researchers are not known. As a result, the remains of Kyme are shared by the same fate, as are the remains of other cities on the Ionian coast. The precious stones of this ancient city were plundered and used in the construction of new cities. For this reason, Kyme, which is one of the important cities in the Ancient Ages, was able to survive without any deterioration of the characteristic of the day. Sur remains, a monumental structure, Ionian-style temple remains, two columns without grooves, and an area where the ancient theater is located.

Professor S.Lagona's excavations have revealed some of the parts of the orchestra section of the final theater, as well as small finds such as pits, mask, silken head where the twelve pillars are placed. However, in the Namurt port, remains of north and south Mendirek and numerous inscriptions and coins were found. Numerous sherds are found on the ground in Kyme. A.D. In the 2nd century BC, an Anatolian goddess relief resembling Artemis of Ephesus attracts attention on the coins the Kyme repress. The bronze athlete sculpture at the Archeology Museum in Izmir and Artemis head at the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul are among the most beautiful finds. Some finds are also exhibited at the Louvre in Kyme Antique City in Paris. Kyme is located in Cakmaklı village, 6 km South of Izmir Aliaga district.
