Ø15: How do you eat an apple? ... & Chinatown!

"Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown."

How does one go about writing a short story?

What about a novel? A big flippin' 70,000 word one? Or a 110,000 word one?

What about an author career? How does one build up a decent income from writing and publishing their work?

And a life? A happy one? Full of memories that are pleasant. The kind you look back on with fondness from your old rocking chair whilst your alone, eating toffees and wetting yourself.

Well ... with a single bite at a time dammit!

The Other Stories Write-A-Thon

Let's start with the negative. I didn't get my word count in yesterday. I got 1500 words down. Not great words, either.

I was hoping to start this challenge on a strong note. I wanted to get a head start. I wanted to make the rest of the week as easy as possible, but it didn't work out like that.

My friend, @steemdom, was up in Manchester for the day and we had a great time, wandering through the streets of Warehouse City, talking about everything from vinyl records to VR technology.

We found ourselves eating a sweet little three-course lunch at a Teppanyaki place in Chinatown.

It was nice to catch up. It was nice to eat good food.

Sure, I could've spent the time holed up in a café working on the challenge, but I was much happier banking the time in the way I did, on experience.

And when I came back home to check on Cat (still with broken bones), I could well have conked out to a film or a book. I could well have written the day off and chilled out, put the work off to the next day.

... mañana mañana

But I didn't.

I made coffee. I sat down. And I forced myself to write. I forced myself to take as big a bite I could out of that giant apple of my life.

Because I know that that's what's important. Taking a bite every day. Just a single bite. Big or small. It doesn't matter. As long as I take a bite. Every single day.

IDEA 117: District 9 meets Chinatown.

Distant future.

Alien immigrants have made their way to the planet. They've integrated as best they can but have brought over much of their old culture.

They've been given whole sections of land and old towns to make their own.

We call these places -- Alientown (or something cooler lol).

Humans live their too, but the places are dominated by the aliens selling their food, cooking, ornaments of their culture, etc. Crime is also rife. They're seen as a sub-class species to humans. Our governments and police don't offer half the protection that they do to humans.

Anyway, a Private Investigator is hired to spy on someone living within an Alientown.

The PI is a full on Specist. He hates the Aliens. But the investigation is long and deep and he quickly finds himself immersed in the culture, helping save them from some human crime family who are trafficking the aliens.
