Today, I visited Trump. - G20 Hamburg
This weekend is the twelfth meeting of the G20 in my hometown Hamburg in Germany and I would like to share some of the happenings I experience, living here.
The preparations
A couple of days ago I went by the exhibition center, where the summit will take place. The whole surrounding area is being heavily protected for weeks now. That's why more than 15000 policeman from all around Germany are stationed in Hamburg at this time, apart from some Berliner cops, which couldn't behave themselves and were send back.
This video I captured last night, when around 12 pm I got disrupted by the shaking ground due to some water cannon vehicle and the following police vans.
The day before the summit
This morning I woke up because of the heavy traffic. When the first maps came out, where you could see the convoy routes, I was happy because my street would not be closed. But I guess I did not think that through, because now all the traffic in my area had to pass my house and this caused a traffic jam from about 8 am until around 10 pm. I never experienced so many cars going by.
Besides the many cars this morning, there also was a huge number of helicopters going from a to b or just observing the city. One of them was the Marine One, which I unfortunately wasn't able to capture. So day and night the only thing you hear since yesterday, when you are outside or just have your windows open is the sound of rotors.
In the evening I went out for a walk to the current residence of President Trump. The weather was really nice and it was hot, but also, thanks to the enormous traffic, it smelled heavily of gasoline in some streets.
On my way to the guesthouse of the senate, were Trump will stay, I encountered many police vehicles and roadblocks but also many interested people running around or riding a bike.
This is one of the barriers which you can't cross right now, I guess Trump needs the highest security precaution, so you really don't get close to his current home.
This is a group of police divers finishing their shift and a police boat escorting them.
After I walked up and down the streets to the a president I eventually went back home and captured this beautiful sunset above the Außenalster.
This was part one of my G20 covering, which I will continue the for the next days. The G20 summit is not supported by most of the people living in this city, including me, but I try to give you a neutral view of just the things I experience while the whole world is looking at Hamburg.
