FROZEN DANUBE RIVER - ONCE, THAN, NOW!

The Danube gives a specific charm to my city. It shapes our everyday life in many ways. We spend the days walking along the promenade along its coast. Because of him, we have a world-famous rowers and sailing club, and many fishermen.

Each seasons form the Danube in its own way. The Danube is a river that mostly flows quietly in this part, but it can surprise us, to flood the city or to completely freeze during winter.

This photo from 1927 i saw for the first time in the exhibition of old photos of the city of Smederevo "Street of memory".
In these photo you can see a young guys who crossed the frozen Danube and brought wood for heating from the river island - Smederevska ada. It's interesting how nice they are dressed as well as a beautiful view of well preserved Smederevo fortress in the background,, which was built in the 15th century, and which was badly damaged by the explosion during the Second World War.

At that time bridge, which connects the left and right banks of the Danube, didn't exist. It was built after fifty years. Before the bridge was built in 1976, at that time the scaffold transported people and goods from the coast to the coast. It was impossible to do this when the Danube was frozen, so people have managed in their own way.

During February 2012, it was very cold. The Danube surprised us with an ice cover. He quickly frozen, so the helicopter rescued sailors from ships. Although ice brought many problems, it was amazing to watch the ice field.

It was not easy for birds, so they crossed the coast in search of food that people threw them.

Winter is coming. Who knows what a surprise the Danube is preparing for this winter. Anyway, we will prepare our cameras.
