Twelve dot Eleven dot Twenty Eighteen
"To create a character is the job of a writer. But a comic book writer infuses life, enlightens ideas, and brings to the reader an independent entity. And yes, you can be a part of this entity."
Well, you need not google this quote. It is said by me.
Last week, a good friend of mine had suggested (read "pestered") me to watch an underrated Hollywood movie, Unbreakable by M. Night Shyamalan (yes, the director of The Sixth Sense). It stars Bruce Willis and Samuel L Jackson, and the film synopsis can be briefed into one quote by Jackson's character himself —
"It's hard for many people to believe that there are extraordinary things inside themselves, as well as others. I hope you can keep an open mind."
Well, it's a tough task. To believe that people have special abilities, special gifts, special talents which most people don't inhabit.
But, it took just one man to make us believe in the existence of the super. To believe in entities that look like us, but have phenomenal abilities and powers. One never fears to take down an army on his own. One is intelligent enough to push through obstacles. One, though divine in every possible way, has gained wisdom eventually. One still tries to embrace the other side of his own persona. One regrets to have killed so many, but now is ready to wipe off the red in her ledger at any cost. One has lost her family, and still has the strength to fight back against all odds. One is an unsung hero, but he has hope and big heart. Like these people, there are many, many entities whom we believe in.
No. They don't exist in reality at all. But we still believe in them. We are moved by their acts. We question their decisions. We are disillusioned when they are in conflict. We are lost when they turn to dust.
No. They don't exist in reality at all. But we still believe in them. In fact, they teach us every moment. Who would have ever thought that one of the youngest of them would be mature enough to declare this iconic statement? —
With great power comes great responsibility.
And. He made us look. Listen. Think. Comprehend. React. Question. Realise the world around us.
He taught us to understand the world around us better by having us swim through the ocean of the super. The unimaginable. The aspired.
Yes. It took just one man to create a universe, and have a world, in a different universe altogether, full of living people believe in them.
