Ubuntu 17.10 Gnomified

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

The Ubuntu community has always been a massive tech and OS community. It is ever growing, and for the record it is one of the Top 3 Operating system when share user and functionality is put on the scale. Some of the  problem Ubuntu OS (well, practically all linus distros) have faced over time are battery life inefficiency(though this can be improved), a blank, not for fun user interfaces and unavailability of some dire needed third party programs available on other major operating system

Voila! Ubuntu 17.10

Well, this is not a huge release by any means, just kidding!. Ubuntu 17.10 has broken of the head-straining disappointment of Canonical recent too-much concentration on the "Convergence" niche. I believe this release is a star to the heart of those who have stuck through the pain of using a desktop environment(Unity) that has seen little to no change for years now.

I upgraded my machine on the first day of the release and I must tell, Ihave enjoyed every byte and bits of it. The biggest change noticed when your machine boots up is that beautiful refined Gnome desktop experience!. Though I did noticed some lag on the first boot of my Elitebook 9480m. But this resolved itself after a reboot.  Below are some screenshot of the user interface.

This is the application section, the notification header also looks sleek.

There is also the activities sphere with so much fluidity!. It also lets you access your workspaces by hovering to the right when in the activities sphere. You can as well make arrangement of applications opened.

Other Improvements

Apart from the switch to Gnome 3.26.1, there are pretty plenty improvements, especially bug fixes and updated Kernel. The previous Ubuntu 17.04 and 16.04 LTS, have always had occasional fatal fail of the OS and flickering. But this has been fixed on 17.10. Another welcome improvement is battery life. If upgrading from Ubuntu 16 LTS, you would notice battery improvement. My Elitebook managed to cross 5:47 hrs. That is about an hour and 27 mins increase. Most of this improvement is due to the updated kernel and better management of power. Just slight battery improvement if you are coming from 17.04.

The update is already available, you can simply get it via software update or you can download the clean ISO from Ubuntu.
