THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER. WHEN? WHERE? HOW?
Hello steemians, I'm here to enlighten you all about THE GEMINID METEOR SHOWER.
Well of course, I'm quite sure that most of us have actually heard and has been anticipating the wonderful and beautiful scenery of the Geminid meteor shower.
First of,A meteor is any object probably rigid in shape that, on entry into the earth's atmosphere makes a streak and if it actually reaches the ground, it's called a meteorite (The geminids don't usually reach the earth surface,because the particles are too small)
The Geminids is a name coined from the constellation Gemini(The twins), This is because, They seem to emanate from the bright constellation Gemini
Now here's the interesting part, The Geminids can move at rates as high as 130 meteors an hour.
Unfortunately, under light-polluted skies, fewer meteors will be visible.
Where do these Geminids come from?
Actually, They date back to nearly 200 years ago, the first observation was in 1833 on a river boat on the Mississippi river. Despite this, the Geminids grows stronger and stronger, And this is because Jupiter's gravity has tugged the stream of particles from the shower source (the Asteroid 3200 phaeton) closer to earth over the centuries.
The Geminids will shine brightly this year,as there will be no moonlight obscurity. Most meteors appear after midnight, which I myself can testify to....As I've seen quite a few Tonight.
The Geminids tends to peak at 2 a.m this morning.
Now, To get the best view , you don't necessarily need a telescope or a pair of binoculars. All you gotta do is find a comfortable place for you, you may decide to sit or lie on your back.
Stay away from the lights, also dress warmly,if you are in a cold weather.
Give it a few minutes,for your eyes to get accustomed to the dark.
NB: Astronomers suggest looking to the East To get a better and convenient view.

This is wonderful. Never knew meteors would be called meteorites after they reach the earth (the group). So if a meteor disintegrates before it reaches the ground, that means, it failed JAMB. Lol.
Can we still look our for Geminids tonight or it's past?

And as per ur question;Astronomers only predicted it peaking between the 13th and 14th
.
So it might still happen tonight,but it won't be as visible as it was yesterday.
It means I will have to stay awake to witness the meteor shower
Of course,but it won't be as visible as it was this morning
