I do love simplicity. Sometimes, though, the scene can't be controlled and therefore the shot is busy. It doesn't mean it's bad. A good example is that recent photo of yours called Just Missed the Shot.

Haha, there are actually many cities in The Netherlands with canals! I just do not come there very often
The only city I saw with canals when I was there was Amsterdam. I drove to the Kröller-Müller Museum and there were no canals in the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Otterlo! Just a lot of beauty!
Oh nice, yeah the Hoge Veluwe is beautiful. But mostly surrounded by villages. Most of the canals are in the cities.
