Plants that live in water

Water plants or also called hydrophytes are plants that have adapted to live in aquatic environments, whether they are submerged in part or all submerged parts. Water plants depend on water.

Some types of aquatic plants that we usually know is a type of water plants that grow wild in fresh water, the river, in ponds, or in the lake. • Kelp

Kelp is a seaweed that is rich in nutrients. These plants enter the family of algae and require temperatures between 6 to 14 degrees Celsius to grow. Kelp growth is quite fast and has been exploited by many other organisms as breeding grounds.

In addition, research shows that kelp can be used as a renewable energy source and does not require irrigation. But unfortunately, pollution and environmental changes make this plant increasingly rare.

• Posidonia

Posidonia is commonly found in the Mediterranean and Australian seas and is known to have at least nine different varieties. These plants can only grow in hygienic waters and their presence indicates that the waters are very clean and pollution free. Posidonia is the basic ingredient of some products such as chalkones and flavonols.

• Milfoils

Milfoils or Myrophyllum is a genus consisting of about 69 aquatic plants. Leaf shape that resembles bird feathers make this plant is often used to decorate an ornamental aquarium. This plant is able to reduce oxygen levels in the deep waters, in addition they also increase the level of sedimentation and become a favorite place for mosquitoes to breed.

• Hyacinth

Hyancinth looks very beautiful with a bright purple or blue color, but this plant includes the type that interfere. They belong to the Pontederiaceae family. They spread underwater easily and absorb the oxygen contained in the water, preventing other plants from developing properly. These plants are often used to make drugs, ropes, furniture, and some even use it as food.

*Waterwheel

Waterwheel or Aldrovanda is a genus of carnivorous plants present in the waters. They have no roots and just float in the water. The name Aldrovanda is given in honor of the botanist Ulisse Aldrovandi, who is also the founder of the botanical garden in Bologna. They trap certain species in the same way as Venus Flytrap, so we'd better be careful if we meet this plant someday.
