What was I like in my teens?
A more just and well-intentioned question cannot be other than "what was I like in my teens?" ... is it possible that today's adults take the time to ask that question? ... or is it that being adults no longer matters adolescence? ... is it then that, while the world of a teenager is about to burst by so many emotions and so many hormones raging, an adult is only interested in judging by irresponsible and so many other things... Because I do not agree and it seems fair , because while it is true that an adult has complications in his "adult" world, it is no less true that in the world of "adolescence" there are many more complications; And I dare to say, with due respect to adults, that these complications can become more delicate (not to say serious) than adults; Because they are called "adults" to mature people who have experienced life and who, as a result, already know how to properly address their problems to give them a solution.
However, in most cases, a teenager has no idea how to cope with their problems, which perhaps at the beginning may not even be called a problem, and that is when they need the help of an adult, but what do they think? Adults do not have time to lose by listening to "immature teenage nonsense"; That is when that teenager begins to feel that his parents do not want him, that they are against him, that his life is not worth ... and an endless negative beliefs that focus on his mind, and that is where the issue becomes a real problem; Because, even if my dear adults don't believe it, with this attitude they only push their teenagers towards the great abyss of risks represented by this society today, that goes from bad joints, walk through drugs and, at worst, to reach the unfortunate suicides of teenagers.
Hence, the ideal would be for adults to take at least five minutes of their delicate and precious time and make a small hole in their agenda, to reflect on how they were during their adolescence?, perhaps this measure, which does not seem to be so complicated would serve to avoid many bitter times attributed to the most feared of all , "Adolescence."
Perhaps in that simple question is the key to understanding a little bit our teenagers who, beyond being guilty for their actions, are only victims of a stage of change in their bodies, in their minds, in their environment ... in their lives.
Hey, but not everything you saw in adolescence is bad! We also have to recognize in it live many pleasant experiences either in the company of friends, family or an affair perhaps. In short, living adolescence is like walking barefoot on fresh paint, although many do not notice it, every step we give our feet are marked more, but, although we can actually wash those marks of paint, the marks of the steps we give in adolescence will be as indelible traces in our lives.
Today as a young adult, let me remember that in my adolescence I have been, firstly fortunate to have parents who were responsible for inculcating a series of moral values with which I have been able to defend myself from the social risks and, likewise, to create my own principles that become, at the same time, protective factors to counteract the innumerable risk factors that exist. I also want to mention that, despite always having a vision of the future and being aware that my footsteps would be marked throughout my life, there were times when I wanted to eat the world; But perhaps I should also recognize that those desires to eat me to the world were limited by that consciousness that I had ... perhaps I hastened to be "adult" and I missed living to the fullest stage of madness ... or maybe I was just a different teenager, not to say, a premature adult.
However, I consider that as adults, regardless of our adolescent experiences, we should not forget that one day we were and that we all went through that sidewalk in the way of life, suddenly some of us spent very quickly and others do not want to leave there; But it is important to remember it so that we can understand those who are entering there when we have already left.
In short, today I want to make the invitation, to those adults who come out of this sidewalk have not looked back and already forgotten how difficult or fun it could be their walk through adolescence, to stop for a moment on the highway of adulthood and remember a little how did they go during their teens? ... perhaps they were more difficult to understand than their teenagers today!
