Why do we care?

Why do we care so much what people call us? If someone calls you racist because they don't like something you've said and your not AND you live your life not being racist it shouldn't matter what they say. People, the left especially, say these things to shut down conversation they dont like. The way I see it if someone calls you racist, bigot, or sexist during a conversation and your not ignore it an move on... if you are a good person living a good life those slurs are defused the moment they are uttered.
