The hundreds of Sea Turtles in Apo Island! :)

in #blog7 years ago (edited)

Apo Island has become the talk of the town since the celebrities of the ocean have migrated from the south - the Sea Turtles! :)

A lot of people asked where these sea turtles came from? So I asked one of the local tour guides about it and I found out that hundreds of them migrated after a strong typhoon 7 years ago. Their natural habitat, the corals, were destroyed by the big waves so they had nothing to feed themselves and traveled miles away to find food and luckily made it to Apo Island.

(I used Nikon underwater camera.) The tour guide said this is an old sea turtle based on its size.

Did you know that there are 7 species of sea turtles that have been around since the time of the dinosaurs? Which means they have been here for about 150 million years making them the oldest creatures on earth.

Unlike land turtles, sea turtles cannot retract into their shells. They are also air-breathing reptiles and can drown if they stay underwater for a long time. Their gender depends on how hot or cold their environment is while they were still in their eggs.

We are dying to touch the sea turtles even just a finger on them but the government prohibits every tourist to touch any of them and if you get caught, you can be fined 5,000 pesos for your crime. (kmustang singko mil bes? mao ng utong nlng gyud) :D

We were a little bit unlucky because the waves were bigger than usual so the sea water was not as clear as it is used to be but still had so much fun swimming with these beautiful creatures.

While swimming, I found Patrick! The water was really shallow. It was on my knee but they do not allow stepping on the algae because this is the sea turtle's food.

And of course, the abducted son of the overprotective dad, Marlin - NEMO!

I am really scared by sea snakes so I let the tour guide take the picture. Sea snakes belong to the family of cobra. There are 60 species of them in different sizes, colors, types, and habitats. They are clumsy on solid ground. Even though they live in the water, they use their lungs for breathing. They can also breath through their skin. These creatures are venomous but they are not aggressive unlike land snakes.

I am not sure what creature is this but it looks like a black baby sea dragon.

I was surprised by the sizes of the corals around because they were really huge. Unfortunately, I was not able to take pictures of them because my camera ran out of battery and there was no way to charged it. So I advise you guys to always fully charge your devices or bring a spare battery.

This is where we stayed for 2 nights and 3 days. :) The owner is an Australian lady. She is a diving instructor. She was very nice to us and very accommodating. They serve early breakfast. (well, it depends on you actually.) We brought our lunch in the boat and we ate in Apo Island. It takes 30 minutes from this resort to the island by pump boat.

I was thinking of living in this hammock forever. :) I find my peace from the world in these kinds of moments. It feels good to sometimes reward yourself from working your ass off for the whole year.

My introvert sister - Harrah. I let her joined Steemit and signed up but still needs to build her confidence in writing and interacting with new people. I gave her an overview and let her take a look at how the community works. But I still need to improve my persuasion skills I guess.
