Around town during and after local lake flooded

in #blog7 years ago (edited)
Here are some pictures from around my town during and after the lake flooded. This is in Kelowna British Columbia Canada. The pictures of the actual flooding are not mine, I wanted to share what it was like with steemit. There is also some video and I share some pictures at the end that I took this morning now that beaches are fully open. And the beaches are opening just in time, we have BC day celebrations happening, and the beaches and downtown area are where a lot of the celebrations happen here.

The lake is named Okanagan Lake. It is a large, deep lake in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. It is 135km long and the maximum depth is 232 metres, in some spots it is between 4 and 5 km wide. During the flooding there was about 1,200 docks damaged or destroyed. Flooding across the Okanagan began May 7 from a massive spring storm, alongside larger than normal runoff from late-season snowfalls, this all caused the lake to rise to unprecedented levels. With the peak being on June 7th.

Now for some fun information, in Canadian folklore there is said to be a lake monster reported to live in Okanagan Lake. It called Ogopogo, and is basically another interpretation of Nessy (Loch Ness Monster). The most common description of Ogopogo is a 40 to 50-foot-long sea serpent. Ogopogo has allegedly been seen by First Nations people since the 19th century.

Crazy, this grand solar minimum will be interesting

It sure will. Thanks for stopping bye

That looks like it did a lot of damage? How many people were affected bu the flooding?

Many. It effected more than just my town but many other local towns. The main problem was the length of time it lasted. It wasnt like a tsunami. It was gradual flood with a lot of warning.

I wish you all the best over there. Hope it's back to normal quickly

Thanks for the support!!
