Four Years Again, IoT Will Get More than Half the Internet Devices / Empat Tahun Lagi, IoT Akan Kuasai Lebih dari Separuh Perangkat Internet

In the next four years, more than half of internet devices around the world will have IoT (Internet of Things) capabilities and communicate with each other.

Dalam empat tahun ke depan, lebih dari separuh perangkat internet di seluruh dunia akan memiliki kemampuan IoT (Internet of Things) dan saling berkomunikasi satu sama lain.

According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI) report, by 2021, there will be 27.1 billion devices connected to the internet or up 10 billion devices from 2016. About 51 percent of those devices are devices that support IoT and M2M communications (Machine-to-Machine), starting at home, vehicle, hospital, to public place.

Menurut laporan Cisco Visual Networking Index (VNI), pada tahun 2021, akan ada 27,1 miliar perangkat yang terkoneksi ke internet atau naik 10 miliar perangkat dari tahun 2016. Sekitar 51 persen dari perangkat tersebut adalah perangkat-perangkat yang mendukung IoT dan komunikasi M2M (Machine-to-Machine), mulai di rumah, kendaraan, rumah sakit, sampai tempat publik.

However, IoT connections will only consume 5 percent of total IP traffic (Internet Protocol) in 2021. The largest share of internet traffic is still controlled by streaming video by 80 percent, up from 67 percent in 2016, with a duration of 3 trillion minutes of new videos per month.

Namun, koneksi IoT hanya akan mengonsumsi 5 persen dari total lalu lintas IP (Internet Protocol) pada tahun 2021. Porsi terbesar lalu lintas internet masih dikuasai streaming video sebesar 80 persen, meningkat dari 67 persen pada 2016, dengan durasi 3 triliun menit video baru per bulan.

Overall, internet traffic will triple their growth during 2016 - 2021, from 1.2 zettabytes to 3.3 zettabytes per year.

Secara keseluruhan, lalu lintas internet bakal mengalami pertumbuhan tiga kali lipat selama tahun 2016 – 2021, dari 1,2 zettabyte menjadi 3,3 zettabyte per tahun.

Another prediction Cisco disclosed that the number of global Internet users will increase from 3.3 billion in 2016 to 4.6 billion in 2021 or about 58 percent of the total world population. While the average broadband internet speed also increased almost doubled, from 27.5 Mbps to 53.0 Mbps, as the introduction of 5G technology.

Prediksi lain yang diungkapkan Cisco yaitu jumlah pengguna internet global akan bertambah dari 3,3 miliar pada 2016 menjadi 4,6 miliar pada 2021 atau sekitar 58 persen dari total populasi dunia. Sedangkan kecepatan internet broadband rata-rata juga meningkat hampir dua kali lipat, dari 27,5 Mbps menjadi 53,0 Mbps, seiring diperkenalkannya teknologi 5G.

Meanwhile, in terms of security threats, Cisco projected an increase in the average size of DDoS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service) to reach 1.2 Gbps. This attack is enough to extinguish the internet network of most companies.

Sementara itu, dari sisi ancaman keamanan, Cisco memproyeksikan peningkatan ukuran rata-rata serangan DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) hingga mencapai 1,2 Gbps. Serangan sebesar ini cukup untuk memadamkan jaringan internet sebagian besar perusahaan.
