Juicing is easy and healthy for you

in #blog7 years ago

While not everyone enjoys it juicing is something which I like to do. Been a bit bad about it recently but I still try to a few times a week. After juicing recently I thought I would put up some simple how to pictures on it.

I always start by prepping the fruit and vegetables. I like to use a wide variety including carrots, cabbage, cucumbers along with some watermelon and a few strawberries. I find a good combination of mostly veggies with some fruit gives a good enough flavor.

Next I'll assemble the juicer. There are more fancy ones which make cleanup easier but I couldn't afford them. I find you can get a pretty nice juicer such as this one for less than $100. Sometimes I'll put a plastic bag behind it, just to make cleanup a bit easier.

Juicing is easy simply pushing the vegetables and fruits in. The juicer does its work. Out comes fresh tasty juice while the plastic bag makes clean up a breeze. :-)

Like I said juicing isn't for everyone, while I don't consider it a "miracle cure" and that it's not for everyone. I do think it's a good idea. Still lots of debate and controversy over it. But I think people misunderstand it and how the benefits working. Juicing isn't a cure all or anything like that but to me, it can make up a healthy part of a healthy lifestyle. This means good proper diet, exercise, positive mindset and such.

One study I saw said it's actually bad for you and just "sugar water" which seemed kind of silly to me. Yes, if you juice nothing but tons of fruit it will have lots of sugar. Same as if you eat nothing but fruit. Hence why you juice vegetables as well. Not to mention the sugar in fruit is much healthier for you than table sugar.

A ASU undergrade is actually doing an interesting study on juicing after finding it helped her recover from some pretty bad injuries. End of the day, I say people should live how they want. But I know that I will keep juicing. You can find lots of good ones on Amazon or even at your local grocery store.

I hope everyone found this interesting. If so please let me know and I welcome any feedback. Until next time.

Nope - sugar is sugar no matter the source.

That's somewhat a misconception. Fructose isn't broken down and abosrbed by the body as quickly. Fruit also has less sugar in it compared to processed sources of it. Fruit/veggies also have a lot of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and such with have various health benefits. Be pretty hard to overdose on healthy made fruit/veggie combo drinks.

I like juice - really I like carrot juice with a bit of honey and also beet juice - they're awesome. But it only makes sense that if you take out the fiber that you are concentrating the sugar (among other things).

"Fructose is absorbed directly into the bloodstream during digestion and has no impact on insulin production or blood glucose levels. Consequently, its GI value is much lower, on average around 19. It was once thought this made it a good substitute for table sugar, but there is now a growing body of research to question this.

Sweeteners such as HFCS have a higher GI value due to the presence of glucose. It has been suggested that it is the glucose content of these sweeteners that may have contributed to the increase in cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes." - https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/sugar-explained

But... All in all - my personal opinion is that everything is good with moderation and variety.

True, but again fruits and vegetables have vitamins, minerals, antioxidants enzymes and less sugar in them vs processed.

"A Princeton University research team has demonstrated that all sweeteners are not equal when it comes to weight gain: Rats with access to high-fructose corn syrup gained significantly more weight than those with access to table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same. "

There's an ongoing debate on artificial vs natural sugar. Likely from a scientific standpoint that debate will keep going on for a while since people will have stuff to support that sugar, HFCS, and such isn't much different from fructose in fruit. I just know logically and anecdotally I've never seen people gain as much weight off of a diet of fruits/veggies as a diet of refined sugar. And honey bees live longer, healthier lives on honey vs table sugar.

Though I agree on all things in moderation. Your body needs a wide variety of nutrition from fruit and vegetables.

I love it!!! The gorgeous color it turned out to as well <3 yummmy! :)

Aww thank you. ^_^ yes I was happy with this batch juicing is a lot of fun. Always feel better too when I do it often.
