Excerpts from my Pen and Paper Games - "The Drink noone wanted"

Pretext

So yesterday I played a game of the German Pen and Paper "Das Schwarze Auge" also known as "The Dark Eye" as a GM and I would like to share a bit, that made my evil GM soul smile quite a bit.
In the previous session my players had cleaned out one of the Hideouts of an criminal organisation, to claim it for themselfes. In the process they managed to get a lot of injuries and whatnot and I also managed to almost kill the unkillable 3 meter high tank/leviathan/killing machine/Kor-priest abomination of the group by a combination of poision and suffocation. While they looked through the stuff of their enemies, they stumbled upon a strange cold bottle filled with greenish half fronzen content and a message attached from one of their current "antagonists", congratulating them for their victory and thanking them for providing such a great show and sticking to the rules. The latter is a reminder for the mage/dragon of the group to stay visible, but thats a story for another day. Well since my party consists of over-cautious chickens, they decided to take that stuff to an alchemist since they didn't recognize the ice thing. They found out, that the stuff is called Theriak or the "Blood of Sumus" (Sumus is like Gaia from greek mythology in some way) and a very potent healing elixir in its raw form. They also learn, that it vanishes if not kept cold.

The fight about not being rewarded.

After bringing their treasue back home, they start arguing what to do with the stuff. While some argue to sell the stuff(since they couldn't hold onto it without magical aid), others wanted to share a drink, to get the party back on their feet. At this point I feel like I need to give a little introduction of the characters for context:

  • First of all, we've got Hallar, a warrior blessed with the third symbol of destiny(something from the prewritten campaing, which is currently going on, while they take a little break), which gave him a growth spurt, scales and the ability to enter tank mode and become unkillable for the rest of a fight. He got in touch with Kor, god of mercenaries and good fights and picked up the stance of never accepting healing willingly.
  • We have the Viking Erik and his dog/wolf-pet Pluto, who had no real need for healing but wanted to try the stuff netherless. This is the same person, who almost killed himself earlier by drinking from the bottle of an enemy filled with poisoned wine. Read: Fun Times
  • We've got an super powerful mage Rahjadan, who turns himself into a dragon and is constantly out of mana and health, since he casts with life force from time to time.
  • Then there is the amazon warrior Rahjada, who despises magic and despite being half dead refuses to get herself some nice healing, because it's magic and all magic is bad.
  • After one of our players left, we were joined by a Hunter and follower of the god of hunting/winter called Grimow. Being an archer he didn't really needed healing.
  • Last but not least there is the mandatory character with the people skills called Tallian, a nobleman, who is currently on a break from playing.

As you might see there were tensions in the group about what to do and I let them run a little bit, before they started beating down on the mage, that he should see how much longer the bottle would stay could, since this was obviously was done through a spell or enchantment. At this point in time I intervened and told the mage that he felt the coldness fading, thus indicating that the spell was wearing of. So the mage said: Fuck it, lets get a glass for everyone to share it.
After Mage and Viking took a shot, the party started again arguing, who should drink the rest. Despite everyone in need of healing and being presented with the choice of either taking the chance or wasting it, they all started getting into a fight, which brought me joy to no end and was only topped as I started to describe, how the Theriak started to vanish, thus forcing them to make a move.
In the end(roughly half an hour of moral and economic discussions later) they fed 3 potions to the mage, one to the viking, his dog(who got a nice +1 to damage after growing some sharper teeth unnoticed by the group) and reluctantly the amazon.

Sometimes I just love my party. My question is: Did you ever encountered a similiar situation? Also if you are playing Pen and Papers and share your stories here I would love to read them, so give me a notice and you might get a follower. Have a nice day!
